Vehicle Maintenance

How many miles before my Honda needs an oil change?
Every vehicle has its own recommendations when it comes to how often the oil should be changed. Fortunately, Honda World is happy to keep track of your schedule so you don’t have to. Just give us your information, and we’ll contact you when it’s time to make an appointment. Or you can consult your owner’s manual to find out the appropriate time intervals and recommendations for your vehicle. Feel free to give us a call to find out more if you have any questions or can’t find your owner’s manual!
When should I replace my car battery?
Your battery should have an expiration date located somewhere on the device. It’s an alpha-numeric code where the letter stands for the month (A = Jan, B = Feb, etc.), and the numbers are the year. (So, an expiration date of C20 would be March 2020.) Honda World recommends either changing the battery soon before the expiration date or having the battery checked at our service center if your car is having trouble starting.
What if my vehicle doesn’t start?
Usually, a vehicle that won’t start is due to the alternator, starter, or battery. However, it may also be as simple as a broken sensor or as complicated as a worn out timing belt.
A bad starter or dead battery may make a clicking noise when attempting to turn on the vehicle. If you want to diagnose the problem on your own, the best thing to do is check your battery with a voltmeter (if you happen to have one.) If your battery has at least 12 volts when it’s completely off and at least 10.5 volts when attempting to start the car, then the battery is likely not the culprit. Contact Honda World to determine and repair the root cause of the problem, so you can get back on the road.
What if my “Service Engine Soon” light turns on?
Check Engine lights may appear because you need service immediately, or because of a one-time malfunctioning sensor. If it turns on and off again in the blink of an eye, your vehicle is likely fine. However, if the light stays on or constantly flickers from on to off, bring your car into Honda World as quickly as possible. Our technicians use a special code reader to diagnose the trouble.

Tires

How often do I need to buy or replace tires?
There are no set timelines for replacing your tires because it all depends on where you drive, how often, and the type of tires you have. Highway tires made of soft rubber will wear down far faster than those made with thick, durable material. While every tire has its own mileage life, all drivers need to monitor them for signs of destruction. Check the pressure of the tires, as well as the wear bars on the tread every few months to maintain the efficiency of your Honda as well as your own safety.
Do I need to align my tires when I get new ones?
Yes, because alignments help tires last longer. They are especially encouraged if the pattern of wear on your tread is uneven.
What kind of tires should I get?
Honda World can let you know which tires will be right for you based on your driving habits. Whether you love to take your vehicle off-roading on the weekends or you stick to the suburban streets as much as possible, we’ll let you know the best type of tire for you.

Parts

When should I replace my belts and hoses?
Belts and hoses don’t necessarily have standard timelines when it comes to having them changed. If they’re starting to look slack of if they have any type of dry rot, then you should probably take them into Honda World. Cracks in the rubber or a shiny underside can also indicate they need to be replaced.
What is the difference between OEM and generic parts?
OEM stands for ‘original equipment manufacturer’, which means that the parts are made by Honda. Generic parts are made to fit your vehicle but are made by third-party manufacturers. Generic parts can be perfectly safe, but their quality is not guaranteed. It’s why Honda World only uses OEM parts — because we don’t take chances with your vehicle or your safety.

Certified Professionals

Why Use ASE-Certified technicians?
The technicians at Honda World are trained to work on your vehicle, which means they service your car to the exact specifications laid out by the manufacturer. Plus, they use special tools and equipment that are made for Honda vehicles specifically. Not only can they diagnose the problem correctly, but they can take the shortest possible path when it comes to maintaining your vehicle. You can trust the technicians at Honda World to get the job done right the first time
What’s wrong with uncertified mechanics?
It’s not necessarily about right and wrong when it comes to who works on your vehicle, but about whether or not you want to take a chance. Perhaps you will get an amazing deal for quality work. But the alternative will not only cost you time, it will also likely cost you more money. The mechanic you visit may miss a Honda-specific problem that an ASE-certified technician would have spotted immediately. Not only that, but you don’t know what type of parts an uncertified mechanic is going to use. The wrong generic part could end up malfunctioning after a thousand miles because it was never meant to be used in your Honda.
What are the certification requirements?
All technicians at Honda World have passed the ASE certification test for their specific specialty. Our master technicians have to pass a full series of tests and have at least two years of proven hands-on experience. Automobile master techs take eight tests, while collisions specialists must pass a total of four tests. (Please note that there is a ninth test for light diesel engines, but this test is not required to earn the master tech title.) Topics for the Automobile series include:
  • Suspension and steering
  • Heating and air conditioning
  • Manual drivetrain and Axles
  • Engine performance
  • Engine repair
  • Automatic transmission and transaxle
  • Electrical and electronics system
  • Brakes
For collision work, four tests must be passed including:
  • Structural analysis
  • Painting and refinishing
  • Mechanical and electrical components
  • Non-structural analysis and damage repair
