Vehicle Maintenance

How many miles before my Honda needs an oil change?
As part of your Honda ownership and experience with Gary Yeomans Honda, we want you to let us worry about your maintenance schedule. We will call you when it is time for your schedule maintenance so you do not have to worry about it. Of course, you can still check your owner’s manual for the time intervals for your specific models if you want to keep up with it as well. If you are unable to find your owner’s manual, you can call our service center and we will be able to tell you the service schedule for your specific Honda vehicle
When should I replace my car battery?
This is an easy one – just check the warranty date on the battery itself. The letter you see will represent a month – A for January, B for February, etc. The number is the year. So if you check your battery and see a number that says D17, for example, this means that you should replace your battery in April of 2017. You should always change the battery just prior to that date so that you don’t find yourself stranded in an unfortunate situation.
What if my vehicle doesn’t start?
There are lots of things that could cause your vehicle not to start such as a dead battery, a bad alternator, a bad starter, and even a bad sensor or a stretched or broken timing belt.
If the problem is your starter, you will likely hear a click when you try to turn on the vehicle. However, this sound could also occur if you have a dead battery. If you have a voltmeter, you should check the battery. It should read with 12 volts when the vehicle is off. Have someone turn the key in the ignition and you should see the voltage drop below 10.50 volts. If it doesn’t, then the problem is likely the starter if there are no other issues.
What if my “Service Engine Soon” light turns on?
If you have this light on in your vehicle, then you should bring it to our service center as soon as possible to get it checked out. The only way to determine the issues is to plug a code reader into your diagnostic port that is in your Honda.

Tires

How often do I need to buy or replace tires?
There is no hard and fast rule for this because it depends on how you drive, where you drive and what type of tire you have on your vehicle. Tires will wear faster on rough surfaces such as gravel. Tires that are made with softer rubber will also wear faster. Every tire has an expected number of miles it will last. You should always check your tires for wear, low pressure, and other imperfections. If the tread is almost even with the wear bars, then it is time to get new tires.
Do I need to align my tires when I get new ones?
Yes, it is always a good idea to get your alignment checked so you can prevent an uneven wear pattern. If you see this type of pattern, you need to have an alignment done.
What kind of tires should I get?
When you are looking for tires, you should let us know what kind of driving you do, where you do most of your driving, and how often you drive on rough surfaces such as gravel. You should also tell us how much driving you do. This will help us find the best tires for you and your vehicle.

Parts

When should I replace my belts and hoses?
There is no specific rule for this. When your hoses get soft or start to show cracks, it is time to replace. If your belts are dry rotting or the bottom is shiny and they can no longer keep the tension, it is time to change them.
What is the difference between OEM and generic parts?
OEM parts are “original equipment manufacturer” parts. That means they are made by the manufacturer, like Honda. These parts may be sold by Honda or a third party. Generic parts are made to fit your Honda vehicle but are not made by the manufacturer. While these do tend to fit, they do not have the same quality as OEM parts. Don’t worry, we only use Honda OEM parts for our service.

Certified Professionals

Why Use ASE-Certified technicians?
There is no one better to work on your Honda than the technicians at Gary Yeomans Honda. All of our technicians are Honda trained and certified which means that they will fix your vehicle based on the exact manufacturer standards. In order to properly service a Honda, technicians must be certified to use the special equipment that is used to properly diagnose any problems. Without these tools they cannot identify the problem with 100% certainty. If you get an inaccurate diagnosis, you could have an additional, needless, expense. This will never happen at Gary Yeomans Honda. Here, you can trust that with our ASE-Certified technicians, we will find the right problem and fix it correctly the first time.
What’s wrong with uncertified mechanics?
If you choose a mechanic that does not have the Honda certification, you cannot be sure that they know how to do the job correctly. You also cannot guarantee that they will use OEM parts. Even further, that person may not even be ASE Certified and they may not guarantee their parts or work completed.
What are the certification requirements?
The technicians who work at Gary Yeomans Honda must take and pass the ASE certification test in their specialty. If a technician is a master technician, they must pass a group of tests in a series. A master technician must also have two years of documented hands-on work experience.
For automobiles, a master tech must pass eight tests for the master status. For collision repair, a tech must pass four tests in the series. The A series for automobiles and light trucks include:
  • Suspension and steering
  • Heating and air conditioning
  • Manual drivetrain and Axles
  • Engine performance
  • Engine repair
  • Automatic transmission and transaxle
  • Electrical and electronics system
  • Brakes
Master techs in body repair or collision must pass these four tests:
  • Structural analysis
  • Painting and refinishing
  • Mechanical and electrical components
  • Non-structural analysis and damage repair
